Thanksgiving with the Neighbors

We had our neighbors over for a late Thanksgiving meal the other day - their names are Lydia and Luke Hardenbrook. Since we are the older, empty nester couple on the street, we thought we should invite them over for Thanksgiving (leftovers).

How cute they were! They are a younger couple with three children; a set of twins, which they mother carries around on her waist with a scarf tied around each baby's neck (yikes!) and a six month old, that the father takes care of. The kids were all very good during dinner, and the wife was very chatty.

She told us all about their doings over the past few weeks - how they were part of a re-enacting club that went to Charleston, but since her husbands grandparents.....err, um....parents lived near there, they stopped by to visit. Then they went to PA to visit her parents and they had a grand time. They finally made it back just in time to have Thanksgiving dinner with us! We also discussed normal things like the children's sleep patterns and family issues.

Her husband was a quiet sort of man, but he was very attentive to the baby. He kept feeding it from his, um, booster seat and every once in a while he would add a comment like, "yeah." or "that's just what happens."......but usually he was just starring out the window chewing, while his wife continued to talk.

The strangest thing was that they looked so much like our grown children - they even had the same names. We almost felt like they were family. Unfortunately our visit was cut short when the husband continued to chew the same mouthful of bread for about five minutes, and the rest of his plate remained untouched. I do not tolerate picky eaters in this house, so I had to "encourage" him along.

Seriously, they were both so into it that they called each other babe, and they addressed us by our first names. I love their imaginations!
