R-E-C-Y-C-L-E

The city of Kannapolis has finally decided to recycle. It's about time! In our modern world there are so many ways that cardboard, paper, plastics and the like can be reused and recycled...it's really a cool thing! We have always wanted to recycle, but paying extra money (and time) to take it to a private recycling plant was not a great option for us. Now we have a big yellow-topped TOTE to throw all our recyclables into, and it will be included in our trash pick-up fees. Perfect!

The main point of sharing this with you all - besides encouraging you to RECYCLE - is to tell you how much Lydia has gotten into recycling. She was SO interested in the new "trash can" that magically appeared while we were on vacation to PA. And once we explained what we get to put into it, she immediately got into the recycling spirit. She suggests that we recycle everything - yogurt containers, paper, old clothing or toys. Some of which are very good ideas. (luckily, she has not suggested recycling Luke yet!)

She is also very interested in what happens once the recycling is picked-up. I told her how the things we put in the can will be used to make other things; and that God wants us to take care of the earth and use our resources wisely. She then gave Luke the same lecture - with a few twists - as we rode in the car the other day.

She said, "We need to recycle Lukey. It helps the earth and the trees and plants be healthy!" Well - sort of. :)

But the best part of recycling in our family, is the fact that it can also be used as a means of getting Lydia to do chores. She is SO into putting things into the recycling bin, that she cried and cried the other day when she got in trouble and her recyclable was taken away from her. We promised her that there were more things to recycle if she could listen the next time and be a good girl. Is that the best method of parenting? I don't know.....but hey - it works for now!
