a yearly October visit......

To the doctor. Yyeeeesssssss....last year, about this time, we made our first emergency visit to the pediatrician. Lydia had cut her head on the fireplace (brick) and there was a nice, deep gash above her eye. Thankfully, they were able to just "glue" it closed, and it healed wonderfully. You can barely see the scar now.

This year, Lydia went for something a little less dramatic (whew!) While we were playing outside tonight, she got her big toe caught in between two boards on our front porch. She started crying because it hurt, and then I noticed some dirt got caught in it. Actually, it was A BIG chunk of wood that had gotten stuck under her nail - aka, a monster splinter.

I immediately called for Nathan - we were watching a friend's baby at the time too, so I had two kids to watch - and asked him to perform Daddy surgery. After hearing Lydia scream in pain and cry in fear for a couple of minutes, we determined that there was no way to get to it. It was stuck too far down. So, we called the pediatrician.

Thankfully, they had an appointment in ten minutes, and we live ten minutes away. Lydia chose to have protector Daddy go along. From all that I heard, it was a pretty painful process. The doctor really had to dig, and she was almost ready to give up and send them to the ER. Then after one last aggressive try, Lydia pulled her foot back in pain - and - pop! The splinter came out! The doctor told Lydia that she got her own splinter out.....and yea. That's all we've been hearing since then. She even included that in her thank -you prayer to God. :)

Next year, hopefully she'll go for something that doesn't cost any money....like a bump on the knee. :)
