Preface: This story has a sad beginning, but a very happily ever after ending - so stick with me folks!
On Sunday and Monday of the past week, we went camping with our friends from church. This was their first weekend trying out their new camper; so we felt pretty honored to be invited along. As we prepared for the weekend we knew there would be a few things that might, slightly, hinder the "fun level" of the trip.
1. There were going to be 4 adults and 5 children (ages 7 and under) in one camper. Sleep? Wasn't planning on it!
2. The weather report got increasing rainy as the week went on.....until it said 80% chance of rain and T-storms all weekend. Especially where we were going. Goodie!
When we arrived, I have to say that every fear we had seemed to be coming true. It was raining the whole time we drove-up there, and then it started pouring all night. The attendants told us to make sure we brought in anything that might blow away, because we were on the trip of the peninsula and our belongings might end-up in the lake. Nice - I was worried about us ending-up in the lake! Our fire ring was submerged under almost a food of water, there were mud and puddles everywhere, and the swimming area beach was literally covered in FEET of water by the morning!
To add to that, the kids were quite excited (and really very good most of the time); but, that meant that bedtime took quite a while. In fact, I think that all of the kids were awake until almost 10pm - which is when all the adults finally passed out, and they had no choice but to shut-up and go to sleep. It wasn't looking very good for the next day- other than the massive amounts of food that we had brought along to sustain us - and we were considering an early exit.
BUT.....it all turned out ok in the end. After a few hours of pouring rain on Monday, the sun actually began to shine! And even though we had thunderstorms throughout the day, they never lasted very long. We were able to go fishing, eat outside and even have a campfire. The kids were happy, and they slept MUCH better the second night (no sleep does that to you!). We were even lucky enough to see quite a few neat animals - geese, fish, snakes, birds and a bald eagle! It was a lovely camping trip after all - and there was a local donut shop to stop at on the way home. :)!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happily ever after ending. :)
